Realms Apart is a narrative, episodic podcast created from the story told by a group of friends playing DND. DM'ed by the masterful Nox of The Scabby Rooster and produced by the impeccable MoMo O'Brien. A story full of goblins and princesses, pirates and paladins, airships, lost cities, and old magic. It's set apart as a listening experience by the immersive and engaging editing done by MoMo. She uses soundscapes, music, art, and her background in film to create a feeling of listening to an audio storybook. The first arc of episodes even features psuedo-animatic visual edits using official art of the characters by Saillix.
The cast is made up of a group of friends who happen to be incredibly talented creators in their own rights. MoMo O'Brien, UhOhBurns, MikeIGuess, Captain Krail, KazaMarie, and Fabienne and Nox of The Scabby Rooster.
Nox creates a rich world that his diverse players can navigate safely. Azrai himself is openly transmasculine, queer and neurodivergent; all subjects Nox treats with thoughtfulness and sensitivity both in and out of game. Azrai is not the only neurodivergent player in the group, and has found that his needs have been treated with unparallelled consideration at Nox's table- by Nox and the other players alike. 
Azrai plays Calder Grail, a young pirate with a tumultuous past, curious luck, and a quest for revenge. He came into the story later than most of the party, but is now a part of the main cast. Calder is a semi-verbal queer boy, and his story deals with found family, love, childhood trauma and coming-of-age despite it.
Realms Apart is a passion project that everyone involved is proud to be a part of. It is finding it's footing as a standout piece in it's genre, but most importantly- it's a group of friends creating the nostalgic, inclusive story that let them adventure together even from across the world. |
