Hi, I'm Trystan Hawthorne (he/they), an openly transmasculine, neurodivergent artist dedicated to creating immersive storytelling experiences through a fusion of historical inspiration, vibrant fantasy, and collaborative design. With over a decade crafting my "Frankenstein's monster" education in illustration, fabrication, and themed entertainment design, I use my work to invite audiences to step beyond imagination into tangible, participatory worlds. My experience spans various mediums, including 2D fantasy illustration, graphic and UX design, practical prop-making, immersive video production, and interactive storytelling. Each project blends historical authenticity with fantastical elements, showcasing intricate handcrafted interactive props, custom costume designs, and innovative sensory effects that deepen audience engagement and immersion. Influenced profoundly by folklore, cultural preservation, and human psychology, my work captures the emotional warmth, playful sincerity, and jewel-toned aesthetics reminiscent of fairytales, vintage fantasy films and animations- while remaining informed by history and my own experiences as a marginalized person. My journey began in 2016 with my YouTube channel, Azrai (formerly Larp House), where I've shared behind-the-scenes looks at immersive events, workshops, and narrative projects. My creative path has led me across the globe—from the United States and Canada to Denmark, Germany, Australia, and beyond. I co-created StarWhispers, a web-based storytelling platform, with my partner Lou Wright. Together, we run our design brand, Theme Alchemy, offering custom creative services and licensing for diverse storytelling experiences. Our collaborative projects range from escape rooms, theme parks, and educational workshops to historical reenactments and festivals. All my creative efforts are rooted in a lifelong fascination with historical art, folklore, and cultural preservation, as well as insights into human psychology and group dynamics. My artistic style wholeheartedly embraces the glowing colors, emotional depth, and whimsical sincerity of 1980s fantasy animation and film.
